Cost of Living

It is a well-known fact that living in Sharjah is much cheaper than living in Dubai. Honestly speaking, one of the major reasons why expats leave their home country and live in abroad is to earn more and save more- and yes there are other reasons too, we will keep that for other blog posts: D.

According to expatistan, cost of living in Sharjah is 28% cheaper than that in Dubai.  Monthly average rent of 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished accommodation in a normal area in Dubai is around AED 6356 at present. On the other hand, you can rent the same apartment for AED 3837 in Sharjah. Thus living in Sharjah can save you up to 50% of your monthly housing expenses.

Coming to other basic necessity, Food in Sharjah is 19% cheaper than in Dubai. So you can eat more for less in Sharjah.

Transportation in Dubai is also higher (19%) than that in Sharjah. Almost all fares are higher be it buses, taxis or renting a car in Sharjah. Traffic fines are less in Sharjah as compared to Dubai if you slip on a traffic rule.

Traffic

Traffic is a major issue if you are living and working in Dubai. It gets worse if you are living and working in Dubai as you are more likely to spend more than 2 hours a day in slow moving traffic.  While the traffic situation in Dubai has improved a lot in the yesteryears due to latest technological interventions in the transportation sector, but it still is enough to frustrate you in morning and evening hours.  Modes of transportation like buses, car rentals in Dubai, taxis, cabs, private vehicles, add to the traffic mess. While Dubai has a lot to offer, there are disadvantages to living which may outweigh all other benefits.

Sharjah is less crowded than Dubai and therefore traffic is not a major issue. Roads are less congested even at peak hours.  However, if you are travelling from Sharjah to Dubai for then be ready to encounter traffic during the peak hours from 6 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 9 pm.

Unlike Dubai, Sharjah also offers free parking. So why pay for parking when there are free options.

Less populated, less noisy, family atmosphere and cultural heaven

If calm and less noisy is a place that you want to surround yourself, then there is no place in the UAE like Sharjah. The beautiful city is less populated as compared to other emirates like Abu Dhabi and Dubai and has a large number of open spaces that make it quite and pleasant. The city is also known as the cultural capital of the UAE which otherwise you cannot find in Dubai. So if you are someone who love exploring the cultural aspects then Sharjah is the right place for that. Besides this, the atmosphere in Sharjah is more family oriented.
