Implementation of the new rule
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has made it mandatory for the Dubai motorists to upgrade to the new number plates. The up gradation is currently available for all vehicles and across all codes.
In an official statement, RTA has urged all car owners in Dubai who own registered number plates from A to Z to change their number plates according to the new design. The authorities have also requested car owners with un-owned A, B and C number plates to upgrade to the new design from May 2018.
The replacement of vehicle number plates will occur in two phases. Over the next two years, the RTA hopes to phase out the old number plate design to ensure uniformity across the city. All categories of vehicle number plates will be replaced which include those bought in an auction, purchased online or those allotted through vehicle registration.
In the first phase plates with codes A, B and C will be replaced and from January next year D, E, F, G, H and I will be replaced. This process will continue until all types of number plates are upgraded to the latest one.
Motorists with owned number plates can get the plates replaced at any RTA affiliated vehicle testing and registration centre.
